Danny Windever
Danny Windever was born in Fazakerley, Liverpool in 1946. At two years of age his family moved to Speke where they lived in a temporary housing prefab house before moving to a brand new house at 128 Alderfield Drive. Danny remembers it being "one huge adventure", living near open fields and "within walking distance to Hale Village and its lighthouse, Oglet Shore and the Olde Hutte".
Danny lived there with his mum and dad, two brothers and six sisters until he left home at 15 and emigrated to Australia with the Little Brotherhood Scheme (a scheme that allowed children under 16 to go to Australia with an escort).
Danny now works in community radio, playing music and sharing stories about his childhood and school days in Speke. These 'stories from life' have been recorded and donated by Danny and include memories of Lonnie Donegan's visit to Speke when "Lonnie played his banjo and sang 'Don't You Rock Me Daddy-O'."
